Write Your Representative Today To Increase Funding for Prostate Cancer ResearchRepresentatives Jim Marshall (GA) and Peter King (NY) are currently circulating a letter to colleagues in Washington asking for their support for increased funding for the Prostate Cancer Research Program - part of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program at the Department of Defense. The program's funding has been stagnant at around $80 million for 9 years. Because of the extended leveling of the program, grants to continue research into clinical trials has slowed to a halt and unless Congress acts to increase funding for the PCRP, important research will be forced to remain in the lab instead of moving forward to potentially help patients fight their prostate cancer. Click here to write your representative and ask that he/she agree to sign the Marshall-King Dear Colleague. The deadline to sign the letter is March 5, 2010.
Participants Needed for Online Sexuality SurveyDr. Jo-an Baldwin Peters (PhD) is the principle investigator of an online survey for prostate cancer survivors and their partners. Her fellow researchers are Dr. Joel Funk, a certified urologist associated with the Yavapai Regional Medical Center in Prescott, Arizona, and Court Brooker, who is a prostate cancer survivor with experience in communications and media. She is an independent researcher and the wife of a prostate cancer survivor. Her qualifications encompass a BS in Physiotherapy (Physical Therapy), an MS in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and a PhD in Health Care Administration. Her dissertation was on how prostate cancer treatments impinge on the sexuality of both partners. In addition to her research she does presentations to prostate cancer support groups in Canada and the US, has participated in radio talk shows, and has published articles for prostate cancer survivors and their partners. This online survey is a follow up to her dissertation as several trends showed up that demand further investigation. Further details are available in the survey links below. She is trying to generate a significant number of replies to this survey, and asks prostate survivors to complete the survey. If you have a partner, she would appreciate it if they complete the survey, too, as it is important to identify both aspects of the issue of how prostate cancer treatments impinge on the sexuality of both partners. This survey should be completed by both the prostate survivor and partner, if at all possible. Just click on the appropriate link below to start the survey and be certain to share the other link with your partner.
